Cheap Ice Tea from the Kureg

Posted on

Ice tea is my caffeine of choice and drinking 4-6 glasses a day makes buying K-Cups seems crazy.  I would use a box in just a few days certainly not practical or economical.  We had this refillable filter my husband had bought and it just sat in the box never used until my mother asked why I didn’t make tea with it.   Oh my gosh she  is a genus! have done it a few times now and although it will not replace my ice tea maker it will for sure be a great way to make a very fast glass and great when company comes over and wants flavors.

This was my first try I have done it a few more times and works wonderful.  I used opened tea bags because that’s what I had but loose tea would be great.

Ok so I am kind of funny when it comes to food and don’t care for many all-in-one crock pot meals. This one however looked good so I had to try it.  To my surprise and excitement it was a great one!  Rice is a must with this one its great with the sauce and next time I will serve with steamed broccoli.   The recipe came from http://www.thecomfortofcooking.com/2012/08/crock-pot-honey-sesame-chicken.html found it through pinterest and glad I did it was something different and my 9-year-old requested it again soon.  Oh the best part was I had everything on hand and how often does that happen?

Firts combine onion, garlic, honey, ketchup, soy sauce, oil and red pepper flakes. Then pour over chicken. Cook on low for 6-8 hours depending on the size of chicken.  4 hours for fresh

Remove chicken leaving sauce in crock pot and shred

In a small bowl, dissolve 4 teaspoons cornstarch in 1/3 cup water (although not sure this step is needed I might skip next time).  Add to crock pot. Stir to combine with sauce. Cover and cook sauce on high for ten more minutes, or until slightly thickened.

You can either add chicken back to the sauce (as I did) or spoon over the finished plate.

Place chicken on top of prepared rice and top with sesame seeds and chopped scallions.

Cream of Tartar Cleaning

I had a deep-frying problem a while back, I did it way to much of it.  I had a  problem until a few minutes ago because it had left a sticky film on our Keuric that dust and everything stuck on.  I tried everything to clean it but everything I tried made no difference until today.

Pinterest said clean with cream of tartar, hot water, and  green scratch pad.  I used a micro fiber wash cloth though.

No kidding no joke this is what it did in like a minute.  I tell you i am a little afraid of cream of tartar right now what is in that stuff!

Foaming Hand Soap Refill

My daughter had to have the Hello Kitty foaming hand soap the last time we went shopping. This morning we ran out and only had the regular soap refill.  What was I to do????  I remembered seeing on Pinterest that by adding water you can make it work.  I went back and looked at a few pins and thought I would give it a try.

What to do:
  • Fill about 1/5 to 1/4 of the way with soap.
  • Then add water slow so it does not foam.
  • Leave space at the top for the pump.
  • Replace lid and shake well.
  • Pump a few times and done.
This worked great!!!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Posted on

So when I first starred hearing about this well over 2 years ago I was thinking people had lost there minds!!  I was a Tide girl and there is no way I was going to try it.  I mean it would destroy and discolor my clothing and leave me itchy right???  WRONG

My mom started making liquid detergent and her clothing always looked great.  Then she washed a few of the kids items and they smelled great and looked wonderful.  So she talked me into trying it.  My husband made fun thought it was crazy until we tried it and we both had to eat our words.  It worked great our clothing was clean and we even liked the fresh smell.  Now you had to shake it and it was hard to handle but my mom and dad made it and gave it to us so the logistics of it were not a problem for us.  Then came the Powder (WE LOVE THE POWDER)  I never have used powder detergent before and was sure I would not like it.  But it is so easy to make and use.  You can keep it in cute containers and it only takes 2 tablespoons.  That’s correct only 2 tablespoons!!  I will have to tell you our whites have never been this white and our close always come clean.

I keep an opened bar of the Fels-Naptha on my shelf and use it as a pre treating bar and works great!

Some people use Oxy clean in theirs but it’s not needed at all my socks and tops are always crisp white.  Even our white baseball paints always came clean.

You need is

  • 3 bars of Fels Naptha,
  • 1 box 4 pounds of 20 Mule Team Borax
  • 1 box 55 ounce of Arm & Hammer SUPER WASHING SODA (not baking soda)
Grate the bars of Napha and mix everything together and your done!
    2 tablespoons in each load
So after you make it everyone you know is going to want to try it!  This small Mason jar has 13 loads in it.  It’s a great way to get your friends to try it, or even put it in care packages.
